Western Baja SAE Racing
SKILLS USED: PCB Layout & Circuit Design | Wiring Systems | Eagle CAD | Team Collaboration |
Introduction
As a member of the Western Baja SAE Racing team, I played a crucial role in the design and integration of the car's electronic and wiring systems. My primary focus was on creating reliable PCBs, implementing circuit designs using Eagle CAD, and ensuring seamless wiring across the vehicle to support its performance during competitions.
PCB Design and Circuit Layout
Using Eagle CAD, I designed custom PCBs tailored to the team's specific requirements. These PCBs served as the central hub for the car's electronic systems, connecting all the sensors, actuators, and wiring throughout the vehicle. The design ensured efficient power distribution, reliable signal integrity, and seamless integration of components. By connecting critical sensors that monitored parameters such as temperature, speed, and battery health, the PCBs played an essential role in providing real-time data to evaluate the car's performance. Additionally, the PCBs streamlined the wiring system by serving as a centralized platform, reducing complexity and ensuring robust connections across the entire car. This integration was crucial for maintaining consistent functionality during rigorous testing and competitive events.
Wiring Systems
One of my responsibilities involved designing and implementing the vehicle's wiring systems. I ensured that all components, from the power supply to the sensors and actuators, were properly connected and tested for durability and reliability. This wiring infrastructure was crucial for the car's performance and real-time data monitoring capabilities.
Collaboration and Challenges
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, I collaborated closely with mechanical and software engineers to integrate the electronic systems into the car. A significant challenge was troubleshooting connectivity issues and ensuring system compatibility under the rugged conditions of competition. These challenges were resolved through rigorous testing and teamwork.
Conclusion
The Western Baja SAE Racing project was a valuable opportunity to apply my expertise in PCB design, wiring systems, and circuit integration. It allowed me to develop practical engineering solutions and work collaboratively with a high-performing team, contributing to the success of the car during competitions.
